New Marketing Campaign for the City Centre launched

Shoppers, food lovers  and night time revellers are being urged to look at Cork city afresh in a new marketing campaign which  heralds the city centre as an ‘island of discovery’.

By encouraging Cork people to re-discover the unique offering of the  city’s independent traders, the nostalgic-tinged  haunts of their youth or to seek out the  many new lively shops, coffee shops, bars and eateries across the city centre, this campaign  will champion city centre shopping, family days out and Cork city’s night time experience.  Supported by Transport for Ireland and organised in conjunction with CORE, it will see the city centre promoted across  billboards, bus shelters,  radio, cinema and social media.

DJ and radio presenter, Stevie G is the face of the cinema ads as he takes viewers on a personal journey through his Cork: how he and his family love to spend the day while he also brings us on a tour of  his fave’ after dark hangouts.

The city centre marketing campaign will also see street acts on St Patrick’s St at the end of this week.

Next month, Cork will go fashion crazy with the Cork City Centre Fashion Festival, organised by Lockdown Model Management and supported by Cork City Council.  RTE presenter, Brendan Courtney, of  Lennon/Courtney fame, will in town to MC  a free fashion show taking place at the  Atrium at City Hall on Friday September 7. Tickets for the show, which will showcase independent traders, stylists, big brand fashion as well as coveted designers, will have to be reserved in advance.

The following day, Saturday September 8,  a fashion trail will take place across the city centre with fun loving fashionistas  invited to move from space to space across the city to sample a range of fun instore events.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Mick Finn said: “Our city centre is the heart of our city and it’s fantastic to see it being showcased like this so we all become that bit more aware of what we have on our doorstep. The city centre will have another boost this month when up to 20,000 people will converge on the city to visit 43 of our most interesting architectural and historical buildings and locations for free events as part of Cork Heritage Open Day on Saturday, August 18. And It doesn’t stop there.  Next month, on Friday September 21, the much-loved Culture Night returns with another 250 free events at another 120 venues”.

And now it’s easier than ever to get into town using sustainable transport. Bus services are set to improve and are better value for many passengers than ever before. The Park and Ride facility from the Black Ash on the South Link will now serve Merchant’s Quay, Patrick’s Street, the Grand Parade and the South Mall, and will be free from 12p.m. Monday to Saturday for a promotional period.

There’s also a great commuter train service into the city centre from Cobh and Midleton.

The  three month ‘Island of Discovery’ marketing campaign has been introduced to coincide with the re-introduction of the afternoon bus priority corridor on St Patrick’s Street this Thursday, August 9.
